October is here and with it Women's History Month!
By Gabrielle Provencher, Volunteer Social Media at WomanACT
Status of Women Canada has launched their theme for the year and we are happy to be celebrating women who have shaped our Canadian history. It’s a way of recognizing that ‘Because of Her’, we can live in an extraordinary country like Canada. Everyone can benefit from learning the stories of the women who have helped to make Canada what it is today.
Women’s History Month also marks two important commemorative dates for women and girls: International Day of the Girl on October 11th and Persons Day on October 18th.
Use the #BecauseOfHer hashtag and let us know about the women that shaped your history!
“These women – whether they were well-known public figures, or ordinary people working quietly behind the scenes – were daring, bold and brave. They persevered in overcoming challenges and fought for what they believed in. Their efforts – both large and small – have been instrumental in influencing Canadian society, helping to make it more just, more equitable and more open. They are role models for all Canadians, showing us how the actions of individuals, when taken together, can and do make a difference in the world.”
